FREQUENT QUESTIONS ON MEDICAL RESEARCH CAPABILITIES

Conducting studies all over Brazil and working through associates elsewhere (mainly in Latin America) Demanda is familiar with the following markets: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela and Peru.

1. How many one-on-one (IDI) sixty-minute interviews can be completed per day at a central facility?

7 to 8

2. What are the days and times when respondents are available for central facility research in
your country?

  • General Practice / Internal Medicine Physicians: Days: Monday – Friday Times: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Specialist Physicians: Days: Monday – Friday Times: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Patients: Days: Monday – Saturday Times: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Pharmacists: Days: Monday – Saturday Times: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tip: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days to conduct FGs and IDIs with medical practitioners in Brazil

3. How many two-hour focus groups can be completed per day with the following respondents?

  • General Practice / Internal Medicine Physicians: 3
  • Specialist Physicians: 2
  • Patients: 3

  • Social Class – B/C/D: 3

4. What is the maximum number of respondents that can be recruited for a single group with the following respondent types?

We prefer to have no more than 10 people in each group, as larger options are not productive. In our opinion, a productive group has a maximum of 8 participants.

  • General Practice / Internal Medicine Physicians: 12 to sit 8
  • Specialist Physicians: 12 to sit 8
  • Patients: 10 to sit 8
  • Managers / Professionals: 10 to sit 8

5. What are the dates to be avoided for conducting research in Brazil due to holidays or customary vacation dates?

6. Do you recommend using the same simultaneous translator for multiple cities or a different translator in each city? For example, if a project is to be completed in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, do you recommend using the same translator for São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro or separate translators in each city?

This will depends on the study and who will be preparing the final report, as well as the scope of the study. We always work with excellent translators. It is cheaper to work with different simultaneous translators, avoiding travel and accommodation expenses.

7. Assuming an interview length of 60 minutes, can we conduct research with the following respondent types through telephone interviews in Brazil?

  • General Practice / Internal Medicine Physicians: Yes
  • Specialist Physicians: depends
  • Patients: yes
  • Third Party Payers or Reimbursement Specialists: No
  • Managers: yes
  • Professors: yes

Tip: TOO LONG FOR THE TELEPHONE INTERVIEW METHODOLOGY – after a while respondents are not paying as much attention as they would if in a personal interview, so one-hour tidi are not recommended in most cases. However, depending on the target and the screener, this may well be the most feasible methodology for conducting specific studies.

8. Definition of Detailed Notes for IDI – Delivered to the client with interesting and pertinent respondent quotes - the client provides an outline and the moderator enters impressions of the respondent's answers and attitudes. Direct quotes may be used to make a point when a respondent does a good job of capturing the sentiments of others. The moderator may provide a word document for each interview, or the client can provide an Excel spreadsheet for the moderator to complete. Note that this item may not be needed, but costs may be requested if required.
Based on the above definition, how many days after the interview can we expect delivery of the notes?

3 days after the interview is completed, although this depends on the total number of interviews.

11. Definition of Executive Summary – The moderator provides a 2-3 page Word document summary of overall research findings in English, usually including a brief (1 - 2 sentences)overview of major issues and the moderator's view of unique country characteristics (social and cultural issues, healthcare system, reimbursement, etc.) related to the survey.
Based on the above definition, how many days after the completion of all research are normally needed to deliver the Executive Summary to us?

1-2 days - in English.

12. What is the normal number of days needed to translate the following documents?

    Yes, it is possible to rent by periods: morning, afternoon or night or by number of groups.
